AXEL LENARDUZZI: PIANO
WITH GUEST SPEAKER MARC DESCHAMPS (geoscientIST)

This event is part of ClimateKeys, a glocal initiative launching with over thirty concerts in nine countries during October & November 2017 to raise public engagement with CoP23, the 2017 UN climate talks taking place in November. ClimateKeys, founded by London-based composer pianist Lola Perrin, features concert pianists and climate change experts collaborating in performances that include a conversation with the audience about positive response to climate change. To date, over a hundred concert musicians and guest speakers in twenty countries have joined ClimateKeys. More concerts are being planned through 2018.

“Climatic change remains controversial. Some people deny its existence, some others think that humanity is not responsible for it ... We will bring the point of view of the geologist who knows that climatic changes occurred during the whole history of the planet through natural geologic processes. After considering some evidences of past climate changes, we will show that CO2 often played a crucial role in these processes. Geological storage of carbon has been carried out by the planet for billions of years, mainly through the formation of limestone rocks and fossil fuels, always with a major contribution to Life! Today we are releasing much more CO2 into the atmosphere than the oceans can absorb. So, how can we deny our responsibility when the atmospheric CO2 content exceeds 400 ppm, a level never reached during the last warmest interglacial phases? We must remember this quotation of uncertain origin (possible attributed to Indigenous Americans) “We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children”. "Near Paris, the winter is more and more warm. The climate seems to be even more temperate, and it causes some problem for nature; winters that are too warm bring more parasite for vegetation afterwards… So, people are tempted to use more chemical products to eliminate diseases on vegetables, flowers… In the South of France, the drought during summer is stronger this year, a big problem in Corsica which is suffering with huge forest-fire. Here in Paris in summer, when the temperature is high, air-pollution, because of industry (even more than cars), reaches a very high level very fast. This is getting problematic for children and old people. A lot of people are talking here about climate change, because of the proximity of the big Forest to the big city, we all see some change. Where I live, we have a lot of agriculture and the Fontainebleau Forest; all of us now want to find way to protect the beauty and the integrity of the Forest and take care over what we produce with farming and agriculture. People who moved to Paris from different parts of the world talk a lot about the pollution back home, too many chemical product in agriculture, and lack of water, problems they didn’t have in the past.

I tried to find pieces to perform that will stimulate the imagination of the audience and get them more aware of the UN climate change conference, COP23. Music has the power to enter mind, creating windows into the soul and the spirit. It can put the listener in a state of consciousness and concentration, to give the listener the opportunity to participate actively in the conference, and go back home with accurate information. We are working to communicate with young people to encourage them to come to the concert, by working with school. We also expect people who come naturally to classical piano concerts. The purpose is to have a mix of ages and sensibilities and hope to have between 400 and 500 people. I discovered the concept by Lola Perrin I was convinced by her energy, her sensibility and real sincerity to make things move!" (ALEX LENARDUZZI)

AXEL LENARDUZZI The relationship between the piano and Axel Lenarduzzi started as a pinnacle that brought on many more: the end of his education, in the mythic city of Rome, was crowned by a prestigious diploma - Diplôme supérieur de perfectionnement à l’unanimité - issued by the Académie Santa Cecilia, and earned under the teachings of Sergio Perticaroli. The encounter with the maestro, which will occur during the festival de Salzburg, will bring about the end of his apprenticeship, open up his artistic vision of the piano, and of life as a concert pianist. To Axel, practicing the piano, life as a musician, and the role of the musician as an interpret are opportunities to open up spiritually, to discover not only the self, but humanity as a whole. His long apprenticeship in music, which ended in Rome, actually started at the Conservatoire d’Asnières, where he brillliantly mastered every level. Next came the Conservatoire National de Région de Boulogne-Billancourt , followed by the Conservatoires Nationaux de Région de Montpellier, and the Conservatoire National de Paris. During those years, he was introduced to Bruno Rigutto with whom he perfected his skills for a few years, before he would meet Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden, at the Festival de Novarra, whose class he joined at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, and earned the first prize in piano, music history, harmony, chamber music and analysis. He also started studying with Sergio Perticaroli at la Schola Cantorum in Paris, before returning to his Italian roots in Rome. During his Italian journey, he has the opportunity to play and work in the Rodi Garganico Masters-class, to stay at the Medici Giulini villa, and to meet composer Davide Liani. He will also collaborate with l'atelier lyrique de Normandie, , accompanying French and German opera singers. The prize-winner of many International competitions, in Italy, France, Vignola Classica, Liszt, Naoumoff, Lyon's Club, he starts playing professionally on a regular basis: Festival Tempietto di Roma, Festival Notte Classice, and more. In 2006, he is invited in the USA, where he performs a triomphant series of concerts in Alabama andFlorida, a recital with pianist Robert Holm, and the recording of In concert and of Famous piano Duo. Back in France, his presence is requested from one festival to the next: Coream, Gorges du Tarn , Les Week-end du Piano at Maisons-Laffitte, Parc de Bel Ebat in Avon, Musique en Fête in Alsace, Classique et Jazz in Val-Thorens, the Festival du Château de Martigny. In 2008, he is asked to return to the US. This new tour takes him to Louisiana, Mississippi, and other Southern states. He plays in the New Orleans Trinity Concert series, gives a recital, performs a duet with Robert Holm, collaborates with several U.S. universities, namely South and performs live radio concert.
